The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
