That Gory Cartoon Film Conclusion That Stays With Fans

Among every mature cartoon movies I have ever watched, nothing has remained with me as much as the fear-filled ending of the graphically gory and highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a grim, bleak , often savage world that included some tiny , desolate twinges of hope.

While Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from a drive to advance the medium further, the director explained that it was rather a try to communicate a universal, multicultural message about “the common origin of all wars.”

That message is communicated by means of a group of vividly colored bears , openly inspired by a well-known series of lovable characters.

Maturing in a culture built around militarism as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of these creatures are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text that tells them they used to be masters of the woodland, until these creatures drove them out.

Some haven’t fully fallen for the indoctrination, and would rather try out drugs and mate in the woods.

In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these bright beings have visible genitals , definite sex drives.

For a particular particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns turns into a route to control — and especially to dominance above his softer, nicer brother Tubby.

The character is a bully and an obvious psychopath , and while terror dominates his squad and takes his comrades sequentially, he grabs more and more influence for himself, through ever more violent, destructive ways.

Meanwhile, the horned creatures are suffering their own nightmare, as an expanding, destructive monster in their woods.

“In the early stages, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the director stated. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and melancholic film. And by the end, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”

Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the more quirky features from an iconic animator, that discover a mischievous joy in permitting animated figures swear, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.

Subsequently it evolves into more akin to a more grim film by that same director, with increasingly visual gore and a tangible relation to the actual suffering of war.

By the end, it is an outright theatrical horror massacre.

The terror which makes the film a perfect Halloween watch starts much sooner than one might expect.

Unicorn Wars is suited for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who desire to see a movie they’ve never viewed until now, and who can handle a story which delivers unflinching brutality.

Watch it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and the finale will crawl into your mind and take up residence there.
