Fans Call for Detainment of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are urging that a person who leaped a fence and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the Australian man bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also questioned guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had assembled in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part version of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two very different characters.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and received ten award recognitions, winning a pair for best costume and set decoration.
