“It was regrettable. That was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”
League Context for Owner Fines
This is not the first time an NFL owner has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in early 2024.
