From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
