Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
